Designed by Maya Lin
While still an undergraduate at Yale University, Maya Lin came to international prominence with her award-winning design for the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. Her Stones Collection, which blurs the boundaries between architecture and art, demonstrates a passion for topography, celestial elements and natural phenomena, and a fondness for elliptical shapes and subtle curves.
The Design
Maya Lin’s first collection of Stones, designed in celebration of Knoll’s 60th anniversary, includes a coffee table and both an adult and child sized seat. “At the heart of this furniture collection for Knoll is my love for the land, which can be traced back to my childhood in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio,” says Lin. “It goes back to a childhood fascination we all have — that moment when you discover that the earth is round...and you walk around trying to see that curve.”
Please Note: This product does not meet Cal 133 specifications.
The Stones Adult Seat reflects Maya Lin’s fascination with the relationship between human beings and nature through elegant, poignant forms, arcing curves and the use of natural, recycled and living materials. It is available in a range of colors and materials, including cast stone and molded polyethylene, and features a slightly concave top.

With a long history of design innovation for the home, workplace, and in textiles, Knoll continues to play a large part in the foundations of Modern Design. Founded in 1938 by Hans Knoll and continued after his death by his wife Florence Knoll, the company has produced a long line of award-winning and museum worthy designs from virtually every top designer in modern design.
Knoll believes good design is good business. Since its founding, Knoll has been recognized as a design leader worldwide, with products exhibited in major art museums spanning the globe, and more than 40 pieces in the permanent Design Collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Legendary designs such as the Womb Chair, the Tulip Chair, and the Barcelona Lounge Chair and Ottoman are instantly recognizable icons of the company.
In addition to Knoll’s commitment to design, Knoll is an industry leader in environmentally responsible practices. All manufacturing facilities in North America are ISO 14001-certified, and all Knoll architecture and design managers are required to attain LEED® Professional Accreditation, a rating system of the US Green Building council that is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance sustainable buildings.
